Binzi rewrites the history book

ON fire Manica Diamonds striker Fortune Binzi has made history after winning three successive Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Player of the Month awards.

Former Yadah forward Fortune Binzi, who is also the PSL top goal scorer with eight goals after 12 matches, was voted the Premier Soccer League’s Best Player for March, April, and May.

However, concern has been raised on how the striker won the March award after he was only involved as a substitute in two of the three matches that month.

The Gem Boys opened their season with a two-nil loss to CAPS United, a match Binzi came in as a second half substitute, then they played out to a nil-all draw against Triangle at Gibbo where Binzi also came in a second half substitute.

Manica Diamonds’ last match in March was a one-all draw against Herentals and again Binzi featured as a second half substitute without any goal involvement.

His first goal involvement was on the 21st of April when he scored a brace in the three-nil thumping of ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium, before going one better with a hat-trick at Gibbo stadium when Manica Diamonds walloped Black Rhinos four-nil.

In the month of May, he scored three goals to take his tally to eight this season.

Meanwhile, it has also been a good start for Ngezi Platinum head coach Takesure Chiragwi who was voted the best Coach for April and May.

Dynamos Coach Herbert Maruwa won the Coach of the Month award for March.

It has, however been downhill for Maruwa since then with the young coach only surviving the chop after a three-nil victory over ZPC Kariba last week.
