Three Hwange football club players lost US$5 000 and their cell phones after being robbed by a gang of thieves on their way from Bulawayo to the coal-mining town.
The trio of Kelly Shiandidi, James Chivasa and Itai Makopa lost their clothes, cell phones and cash after falling victim to a gang thief on their way from Bulawayo.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Matabeleland North Provincial Spokesperson, Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident saying the players were offered a lift by a woman who was driving a silver Toyota Noah.
Inspector Banda said the car which had three other male occupants turned off the main road before the suspected robbers produced knives, stripped the victims, and robbed them of their cash.
“I can confirm the incident which happened to the three Chipangano players. They were driven in a silver Toyota Noah by a deadlocked lady who turned into the bush at Maraposa. Everything was taken including boots, phones and whole team kits per player,” noted Inspector Banda.
The players, who lost over US$5 000 and cell phones, are still in shock.
A 26-year-old woman, who was travelling in the same car, was also robbed by the suspects who are still at large.
