Harare giants reawakening

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

AFTER spending years in the shadows of defending Champions, FC Platinum Harare giants Dynamos and CAPS United seem to have found the right tonic to challenge for honours this season.

The modern game has evolved with the social media game now an important part of every club.

The new boys on the scene, FC Platinum, Chicken Inn, Ngezi Platinum stars and Bulawayo Chiefs have been very dominant on social media as well as on the pitch, while the traditional giants have been dormant.

The emerging forces have been serious about how they look on and off the pitch going on to replicate that on the field of play.

While this was going on Harare Giants CAPS United and Dynamos, who have a great rivalry on the pitch seemed to have connived to agree in perfecting the art of disorder and had been left behind while the game moved on.

The giants, however, seem to have woken up from their deep slumber.

It might just be one week into the 2023 Premier Soccer League season, but CAPS United and Dynamos seem to have mastered the art of modern football.

Dynamos was first to show off what they are all about this season when they emerged on social medial clad in blue suits as they paraded their squad before leaving for Bulawayo ahead of their first match of the season against Hwange.

As if to confirm the new path, Dynamos successfully transferred their new aura onto the pitch after beating Hwange one-nil at Barbourfields Stadium in a match they dominated from start to finish.

A day later, CAPS United paraded their new kit which caused a frenzy on social media.

Makepekepe not only paraded what is so far arguably the best kit in the league, but they also impressed on the pitch with a brand of football which is easy on eye as they outclassed a star studded and expensively assembled Manica Diamonds.

It might be early days yet but the two giants have made a lasting impression and as they say success follows order.

Meanwhile, focus shifts to match-day two which kicks off at 1pm this Saturday as Ngezi Platinum Stars host CAPS United in the peak of the weekend’s fixtures at Baobab Stadium.

The 3pm kick off on the same day will see defending champions, FC Platinum taking on Cranborne Bullets at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane, while Chicken Inn battle new-boys, Simba Bhora at Luveve Stadium.

Bulawayo giants, Highlanders travel to the capital for a date against Black Rhinos at the National Sports Stadium, with Green Fuel taking on Herentals at Gibbo in Triangle.

Sunday sees Dynamos taking on Sheasham at the National Sports Stadium, as Manica Diamonds tackle Triangle at Gibbo, while Yadah host Hwange at Baobab Stadium in Ngezi.

The final match of the weekend will be on a Monday as ZPC Kariba make the long journey to Harare to host Bulawayo Chiefs at the National Sports Stadium.
