LOCAL football giants, Highlanders and Dynamos will open the 2023 premiership season without a new kit after manufacturers failed to meet the clubs’ deadline.
The Bulawayo side failed to present audited financial statements during the annual general meeting last month.
Highlanders’ spokesperson, Nozibelo Maphosa confirmed the new development, ‘‘We will delay unveiling our new kit and replica jerseys after our manufacturer experienced a challenge that we are not at liberty to disclose at the moment. But we however want to give our stakeholders an assurance that the kit will be here after game number four.’’
However, Dynamos, Manica Diamonds, new boys Simba Bhora as well as Division One outfit Moors FC are also affected as they are all supplied team kits by one manufacturer.
Contacted for comment, OTB Looks country representative, Peter Chiveso confirmed the kits will be available in April, citing overwhelming demand at their manufacturers in China.
Meanwhile, Highlanders, who are seeking to end a 17-year championship drought will be without head coach Baltermer Brito for their opening match against tricky side, ZPC Kariba with assistant coach Madinda Ndlovu likely to take charge.
Brito is in Portugal attending refresher courses.
Bosso are expected to announce their 2023 squad and full technical team this week, amid indications of changing roles for assistants Joel Luphahla and Antonio Torres.
