ZIMBABWE’s thrust towards women empowerment is on track as evidenced by the rise in female entrepreneurs in key sectors of the economy.

The recently held Zimbabwe Business Awards ceremony provided a platform for women entrepreneurs to focus on venturing into mainstream sectors of the economy such as agriculture, mining and manufacturing, among others.

With several business people being honoured for their outstanding work, it is the awarding of an International Book Prize to River Valley Group of Companies, Dr. Simeli Dube that emerged as a key highlight for the colourful event.

Dr. Simeli said, ‘‘This award is a real testimony of the conducive business climate by the second republic towards ensuring more women entrepreneurs therefore am really excited but my challenge   to women  is to stay focused and continue working for the nation.’’

Zimbabwe Business Awards Coordinator, Dr Enrico Sibanda called on women entrepreneurs to emulate the role by Dr Dube in terms of contributing to the growth of communities, philanthropic works and job creation.

Dr. Enrico noted, ‘‘This award took into consideration several aspects that have to do with her role in terms of socio-economic development therefore it is my wish that next time more women will also be honoured likewise.’’

Several business people were also awarded prizes in different categories in recognition of their contribution to economic development in line with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 towards an upper-middle-income society.
