AMBITIOUS Premier Soccer League side Ngezi Platinum Stars are looking to build on last season’s fourth-place finish as they target silverware this year.
The Mhondoro-based side finished the season strong after rising from the lower half of the table to secure a fourth-place finish behind champions FC Platinum, Chicken Inn, and Dynamos.
With just a month before the start of the season, the players are looking forward to a new challenge.
“We are happy to be back, we always look forward to a new challenge and we believe we are ready judging by the way we finished last season,” said Valentine Kadonzvo, Ngezi Platinum Stars midfielder.
The 2016 Chibuku Super Cup champions signed three players, winger, Malvin Gaki from Chicken Inn, striker, Claude Mapoka from Greenfuels, and defender, Gareth Madhake from Black Rhinos, after letting go of Denver Mukamba and Tendai Matindife who have all joined Dynamos.
Head coach Takesure Chiragwi who was behind the club’s revival believes continuity will be their greatest asset this season.
“We have kept our squad intact and added two players in attack where we lacked a hit last season so I believe we are ready and the players are applying themselves well and if they can carry that then we should do better than the position we finished at last season,” he said.
Ngezi is looking to play two more training matches before the start of the 2023 season next month.
