The National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) is leaving nothing to chance for Zimbabwean athletes to make the grade for the 2024 Olympic Games with the road map being fine-tuned.

NAAZ had a fruitful 2022 season after Covid-19 restrictions were lifted and focus is now on preparing athletes to make the grade for the 2024 Olympics.

The 2023 season will be fully packed with major track and marathon events lined up.

NAAZ president Tendai Tagara said, “We are looking forward to a busy season in 2023 as we are hoping to host local competitions and have our athletes participate in international events especially preparing our athletes for the world championships that will take place in Budapest, which is a good mark for preparations for the Olympic Games in 2024. We are hoping to qualify five athletes which will be a good indication to the Olympics.”

The year commences with the National Cross-Country Championships on the 16th of January which will be used to select athletes that will take part at the World Cross Country Championships slated for Australia in February.

Zimbabwe will also host the National Junior Championships and the Senior Inter Provincial Tournaments in March.
