Team Zimbabwe prepares for the region five games

The preparations for the Africa Union Youth Sports Council Region Five Games are on course, with the Zimbabwe basketball team getting all systems ready for Lilongwe, Malawi later this year.

The team is determined to bring gold back home.

Basketball Union of Zimbabwe president Joe Mujuru said, “We are satisfied with all the progress we are making. I think we have put together quite a good team that will represent us well and I’m pretty sure they will bring medals at the end of the competitions. The typical team have been working hard and given the experience in the last edition where we did extremely well. We are going to do well competing against powerhouse Angola and we hope we are going achieve gold.”

All athletes will get into the final camp next month.

The regional games will run from the 2nd to the 11th of December in Lilongwe under the theme, ‘Igniting the African Dream’.

In this year’s edition, Zimbabwe will field 224 athletes that will compete in football, tennis, basketball, netball, volleyball, boxing, judo, Taekwondo, gymnastics, e-sports, swimming and athletics.
