Pure Platinum Play closer to 4th championship crown

DEFENDING Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions FC Platinum inched closer to their fourth championship crown after edging Herentals one-nil at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.

Match Day 30 action brought a lot of surprises in terms of results, especially on the relegation matrix.

On Saturday, ZPC Kariba kept alive their quest to evade relegation after thumping Manica Diamonds 3-nil to occupy 14th position on 32 points.

Also involved in the relegation matrix, Harare City collected a valuable point after sharing spoils with Ngezi Platinum Stars one-all at the National Sports Stadium.

Bulawayo City also remembered how to win by collecting maximum points after beating Bulawayo Chiefs one-nil courtesy of an Obadiah Tarumbwa strike.

Army side Black Rhinos pushed Tenax further deep after a three-nil defeat.

In terms of the championship race, FC Platinum is now just three points from being crowned champions after they got the better of Herentals through a one-nil win with their man of the moment Walter Musona making the difference.

The win means Pure Platinum Play now on 67 points are three points shy from their fourth premiership crown.

On Sunday, the much-taunted derby between Chicken Inn and Highlanders failed to produce a winner as Chicken Inn surrendered an almost sealed victory.

The Gamecocks had drawn first blood after Malvin Gaki’s spot kick, while Munashe Pini added the tally.

With the fans now deserting the stadium a dejected lot, Highlanders came from behind to snap a point through Stanley Ngala and second-half substitute Pritchard Mpelele who scored from his first touch on the stroke of regulation time.

With two points dropped by the Gamecocks, Harare giants Dynamos capitalised to sneak into the second spot after beating WhaWha one-nil through a Tinashe Makanda strike.

CAPS United also moved to 11th position on the log after beating Craneborne bullets 2-nil.

Lowveld side Triangle beat Yadah one-nil at Gibbo to occupy the sixth position with 45 points.
