Fifteen teams participated at the pre-season basketball tournament held at Bulawayo’s Eveline High school this Saturday.
Competition is stiff in the pre-season basketball tournament this time around despite power house and defending champions, Mavericks, failing to participate in a tournament which sets the tone for the 2022-2023 basketball season.
Bulawayo Basketball Association executive member in-charge of competitions, Tracey Phiri said the pre-season tournament has given them the major highlight of the type of competition to expect in the coming season.
“We are happy teams have come out in numbers. We have 15 teams this time although Mavericks are not with us this time around. We have Highlanders and Lakers who are a team to watch in the men’s section. The type of combination gives us high hope that all teams have been preparing for the season,” she said.
The Bulawayo Basketball Association held an annual general meeting a fortnight ago to set competition rules as well as settle affiliation fees for clubs and the pre-season tournament is meant to get the ball rolling for the 2022- 2023 season as teams confirm their participation through the tournament.
