THE Zimbabwe women national cricket team, the Lady Chevrons, have shifted focus to the World Cup qualifiers after winning the T20 Quadrangular Series in the United Arab Emirates.

Zimbabwe is in Group B of the International Cricket Council Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier alongside hosts United Arab Emirates, Papua New Guinea and Thailand.

Despite a successful Quadrangular Series which was a build up to the tournament, Lady Chevrons coach Gary Brent knows it’s only getting tougher.

“We have played well and this is the best we have been for a while, but now we need to transfer that into the qualifiers. It’s not going to be easy as we have some tough opponents ahead of us, but we are working hard to make sure we beat them,” said Grent.

Zimbabwe will get the ball rolling with a date against Papua New Guinea at the Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi this Sunday before taking on Thailand and UAE.

Two teams from the qualifiers will join eight other nations at the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Meanwhile, the inaugural domestic T10 competition continued at Harare Sports Club with three matches being played.
