The automated information communication technology system installed at the modernised Beitbridge Border Post has seen customs and clearing agents undergoing a special training course to keep abreast with modern customs processing trends.
The border authorities are leaving nothing to chance in terms of improving efficiency in line with the automated information communication technology system installed at the port of entry.
Graduands are cognisant of the need to offer world class service to commercial freight at the Border Post.
“This has been an insightful course. The capacity we have now will ensure that we give transporters best service,” a clearing agent said.
“When authorities said they are migrating to a fully digital systems, it was very necessary for us to be in the picture, and this course just did that,” noted another.
Another agent added, “Lack of knowledge also breeds corruption. This is a milestone in fighting the scourge at Beitbridge.”
Shipping and Forwarding Agents Association of Zimbabwe (SFAAZ) Secretary, Mrs Catherine Hlanguyo concurred with Zimborders General Manager, Mr Nqobile Ncube on the need to improve efficiency at the port of entry.
“We have re-trained more than 27 customs and clearing agents, we want to bring sanity and professionalism in the customs and clearing industry,” Mrs Hlanguyo said.
Mr Ncube noted, “After the commissioning of the modernised border, we all need to pull in one direction to put this investment into good use, we are pleased by SFAAZ for being forthcoming.”
The US$300 million Beitbridge Border Modernisation Project won the 2020 Global Trade Review Award for being well-structured investment undertaken by government and the private sector.
