PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa says government is harnessing local resources to maintain existing infrastructure and complete unfinished projects.
The President said this in a speech read on his behalf by Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Richard Moyo at the official opening of the Inaugural Infrastructure Summit, in Victoria Falls this Friday.
Zimbabwe’s infrastructure development journey is built upon a desire to meet international standards and enhance the citizenry’s quality of life.
This was President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s key message at the inaugural Infrastructure Summit in Victoria Falls this Friday.
“This platform should allow stakeholders an opportunity to reflect and deliberate on suitable financing options as the country seeks to catch up and leap frog its regional compatriots in Infrastructure,” he said.
While infrastructure development is expensive by nature, there is commitment from government to continue investing in new projects.
“To attract private participation, my government is open to crowd in private capital through funding modalities such as Build , Own and Operate (BOO), Build, Own and Transfer (BOT), and Repair , Own and Transfer (ROT). The crowding in of private sector capital, through Private Public Private Partnerships arrangements has proved successful elsewhere in the world, it is incumbent upon us to emulate such examples to our advantage,” he added.
Key infrastructure development projects being spearheaded by the Second Republic include the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme, Hwange Unit 7 and 8 expansion project, Construction of the Gwayi-Shangani Lake, Beitbridge Border mordenisation and the upgrade of the Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway among other projects.
