Fertiliser blending plant a game changer in efficiency

THE newly-commissioned fertiliser blending plant is set to boost productivity and ensure efficiency in the local fertiliser value chain.

The fertiliser value chain has been falling short of meeting several varieties required by industry and commerce.

It is against this background and the need to ensure efficiency and boost fertiliser varieties that a fertiliser blending plant was commissioned today by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“This machine is at a cost of over one million United States dollars and it was fully funded by the government. So we are committed to government policy in stimulating productivity,” said Engineer Phillip Nyakudziwa, ZimPhos general manager.

The fertiliser manufacturing sector believes the plant is set to be a game changer in the fertiliser value chain.

“A lot is expected from this plant because it will reduce the overall yearly national fertiliser requirements by 50 percent as it will produce 200 000 tonnes of basal fertiliser yearly against national demand of 400 000 tonnes,” said Engineer Nyakudziwa.

Expectations are high that adaptation to the latest technologies will boost the country’s quest to attain an upper middle-income society by 2030.

However, it is the anticipated benefits of the new plant that have excited the fertiliser sector value chains.
