PARTNERSHIPS in the mining and agriculture sectors are bearing fruit, with at least 400 000 litres of milk being added annually to national production courtesy of the synergies.

The Mining and Agricultural Business Conference is a key event at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show and this year it has underlined the important milestones from synergies between the two key sectors of the economy.

By promoting this relationship to blossom, the government has set itself on a pedestal to attain set targets.

“It is quite evident that the two industries are scaling great heights in terms of demonstrating a working relationship that has seen massive investment by mining companies in different agriculture projects. We cherish these initiatives, ” said Honourable Vangelis Haritatos, the Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development.

“The partnership between mining firms and agricultural industry has progressed over the years and we have witnessed big projects being undertaken by mining companies which continue to grow agricultural output,” said Dr Polite Kambamura, the Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development.

Platinum miner Zimplats has acted as if agriculture is its core mandate by undertaking transformative projects and its dairy project is producing at least 400 000 litres of milk annually.

“Mining has directed a significant amount of capital into agriculture and this has helped to transform the agriculture industry to meet the country’s set goals,” said Busi Chindove, Zimplats head of Corporate Affairs.

The symbiotic relationship showcased by key players in mining and agriculture at this year’s conference is testimony that the private sector is determined to play its complementary role in growing the local economy.
