Netball wing attacker looks ahead to World Cup debut

ZIMBABWE netball team wing attacker Beaular Hlungwane is bubbling with confidence as she looks forward to her world cup debut in South Africa next year.

Having gone for more than four years without playing Netball after giving birth to twins, Beaular Hlungwane has made a sensational return after showcasing her prowess at the just ended Africa Netball World Cup qualifiers in Pretoria.

Hlungwane only featured in regional tournaments such as the Botswana Africa Championships and the South Africa Diamond challenge but the Kwekwe-based gem did not feature at the last World Cup in Liverpool.

While the road back to the court has been tough, she is delighted that she will be part of the cast at the global showpiece set for South Africa next year.

“I am very happy that we qualified. It will be my first time to play at the World Cup and I’m glad we fought as a team and we should continue so that we improve our world rankings,” she said.

The Glow Petroleum player is confident the World Cup will open more doors for her.

“Playing at the World Cup is a big opportunity because if you look at other players who went in 2019 like Felistas Kwangwa they managed to be identified, so I hope this time we will also get the opportunity to play in other countries,” she added.

While she looks ahead to her first World Cup, it will be Zimbabwe’s second successive appearance at the global netball showcase after their 2019 debut in Liverpool.

Hlungwane was impressive with her agility and was named player of the match in Zimbabwe’s 43-33 victory over Tanzania in the group stage.
