Women’s Super League log leaders Herentals Football Club continued with their unbeaten run after thumping Barrow Jets 3-1 at Matabeleland Busters Sports Club this Saturday.

Goals from Maud Mafuruse, Tabeth Mutinhiri and Praymore Zvawanda ensured Herentals continue with their unbeaten run while remaining at the apex of the log to keep alive their chances of qualifying for the African adventure.

Peacemore Kenende scored the consolation goal for Barrow Jets after unleashing a grounder off her left foot, beating Mighty Warriors goalkeeper Lindiwe Magwede.

In a dramatic scene, Barrow Jets played the first half with ten players owing to an oversight.

Mafuruse opened the score sheet, while Mutinhiri added the second, with Zvawanda, who was closely guarded by the pair of Barrow Jets defenders Sicelo Ncube and Solly Gandanga, increasing the tally after converting from the spot after being fouled in the box.

Herentals celebrations were cut shot after Kenende pulled a grounder towards the breather.

The second half was a balanced affair with no goal mouth action.

With the unbeaten run, Herentals assistant coach Simbarashe Dedza said the sky is the limit for the Students who are staring a chance to rub shoulders with Africa’s finest.

“A good win on the road, but it goes back to hardwork. the girls are working hard and our target is to play in the champions league and that target looks attainable,” he said.

After reducing the margin from their previous 5-nil drubbing, Barrow Jets coach Thembelani Dliwayo took positives from the game.

“Said Dliwayo, “Look, we were playing the best team, but we managed to give them a good run for their money. We lost due to the fact that we lost concentration but now that we out of the relegation zone, we need to go back and restrategise.”

In another match played in the capital, Harare City Queens drew one-all with Black Mambas.

Rachel Mutseneki scored for the City Queens while Samukeliso Moyo scored for Mambas.
