Chevrons date Bangladesh in final ODI series

The Zimbabwe national cricket team, the Chevrons are seeking a rare One Day International whitewash over Bangladesh when the two teams clash at Harare Sports Club this Wednesday in the final match of the series.

Missing four key players; captain Craig Ervine, all-rounder Sean Williams, fast bowlers Blessing Muzarabani and Tendai Chatara, Zimbabwe rallied to take an unassailable two-nil series lead.

In those two matches, the team has been breaking records, while individuals have also been putting some great performances as the home team continues to dominate the series.

With the series victory in the bag, the Chevrons are now targeting a whitewash.

Chevrons stand-in captain, Regis Chakabva said, “It will be nice to get a white-wash and our focus is to get into every match to win it and that’s the attitude we are going to carry into the match and hopefully we can get one more victory that will be awesome.”

Zimbabwe last white-washed a full member side in 2001 and ironically it was Bangladesh, but since then, the Asian nation has dominated the two teams’ meetings.

The Chevrons went on to beat the United Arab Emirates four-nil two years ago, but another Bangladesh scalp will be massive for the home side.

Meanwhile, visiting coach Russell Domingo has been full of excuses.

“We didn’t have couple of important players in both formats. We didn’t have Shakib [Al Hasan, for the T20Is], Mustafizur and Litton didn’t play today. Hopefully they are back and fit.”

After making five changes in the second ODI, the Chevrons are likely to keep the same side in the final match.
