Chevrons win T20 series

The Zimbabwe National cricket team, the Chevrons beat Bangladesh by 10 runs in the third T20 encounter at Harare Sports Club this Tuesday to clinch the three-match series 2-1.

Zimbabwe seemed to be down in the dumps at 76 for 6 after 14 overs, but Ryan Burl had other ideas.

The big hitting left-hander hit 34-runs in the 15th over to rescue the innings.

Burl’s exploits earned him a place among cricket royalty as he is now third on the list of most runs in an over behind Yuvraj Sighn and Kieron Pollard who hit 36 runs in an over.

Burl was ably assisted by Luke Jongwe as they shared a 79-run partnership just off 31 balls.

The counter-attack rattled Bangladesh as they were not able to chase up 156 runs set up by the Chevrons for victory.

The penultimate over bowled by Victor Nyauchi was a stellar one as they left Bangladesh needing 19 runs off the final over.

The Tigers only managed 8 runs as Zimbabwe won a T20 series for the first time on home soil.

“I am delighted with the way we played right from the qualifiers. We talked about how we want to play and we agreed that even if we are down we will remain positive, and that’s exactly what we did. When we were done, we found a way to win,” said Dave Houghton, Chevrons coach.

The visitors acknowledged that Zimbabwe was better.

Mossadek Hossain, Bangladesh stand-in captain noted, “From the beginning we were in control, but after the 14th over they took over the match and they bowled well. Credit should go to them.”

The two teams now turn their attention to the One Day International series which gets underway on Friday at Harare Sports Club.
