Zimbabwean professional golfer Ben Folliet-Smith has won the Gokomere Open Championship at Chapman Golf Club which is part of the inaugural Chevron Tour that has attracted over 50 professionals from four countries.

After three rounds of action, Folliet-Smith stood tall in the 54-hole tournament as he finished seven under to win the Open.

Folliet-Smith led from day one till the championship day as he carded scores of 69, 68 and 72 and narrowly edged fellow countryman Mohammad Mandhu who finished at six under.

Smith is enjoying his time back home playing at familiar golf courses.

“I have been back since Zim Open. I did well then during the first two days, but fell off at the end but then I had some time at home practicing and I improved my drive. That was the turning point and I took all of that into this tournament.”

Crowd favourite Robson Chinoi continues to disappoint on his home comings as he finished on one under.

Chinoi has been doing well on the Safari tour in East Africa but once again failed to live up to his billing after struggling at the Zim Open.

For winning the Gokomere Open, Ben Folliet Smith pocketed one thousand United States dollars and a trophy.

The Gokomere Open was the second leg of the Chevron Tour which now moves to Zambia for the Mapungubwe Invitational.
