A new era beckons in golf after the Chevron Tour roared into life with the teeing off of the Gokomere Open at Chapman Golf Club in Harare this Tuesday.

The tour, which has attracted golfers from Zambia, Tanzania and Malawi, was launched in Zambia last month, with the teeing off of the Rozvi Tour and this Tuesday the tournament moved to Zimbabwe with the Gokomere Open starting on a breezy day.

The inaugural Chevron Golf Tour season boasts of a packed schedule, with 10 tournaments being played at 10 courses culminating with the Tour Championship.

The Chevron Golf Tour will complement efforts being made by the Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association (ZPGA) to create a pathway for local professional golfers to get some competitive game time before making the step up to other top professional circuits.

“This tournament offers a unique opportunity for local golfers to prepare for other international tournaments as we are giving them the much-needed game time as well as keeping the players in shape,” said Tafadzwa Madzikanga, tournament organiser.

In addition to providing golfers the opportunity to compete in professional tournaments in a structured, growth-oriented tour on a regular basis, the tour will incorporate other player development activities meant to equip the participants with important life skills such as financial planning, career planning and sports science and nutrition.
