Gems technical department names a 14-member squad

THE Gems technical department has named a 14-member squad for the Netball World Cup Qualifiers set for Pretoria, South Africa next month.

Zimbabwe is set to take 14 players to South Africa for the World Cup Qualifiers where they need to finish in the top two to qualify for the biggest netball showcase.

South Africa and Uganda have already qualified for the World Cup hence a top four finish might be good enough to take the Gems back to the world cup if the two African power houses decide to participate in the competition next month.

Coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki and his assistant Tendai Shinya have opted for experience, bringing back the trio of Tanaka Makusha, Sharon Bwanali and Ursula Ndlovu who all represented the country at the 2019 world cup.

The coaches have also showed faith in the bulk of the players that have been representing the country in recent matches in Tafadzwa Matura, Paida Tinoza, Progress Moyo, Linnet Tanhira captain Felisitus Kwangwa and her vice Claris Kwaramba.

Two players will travel as cover in case of injuries but the coaches are excited with the level of competition.

“There’s no pressure because this is not my first time, in 2016 we qualify for the 21 and under World Cup and our last qualifying games in Zambia we made it so experience will play a part and our aim is to qualify although in a game anything can happen buy that is not our worry,” said Ropafadzo Mutsauki Gems head coach.

The team will be in camp until the end of this month before heading to Pretoria for the World Cup qualifiers.
