THE deal to construct a 100kilometre power line from Kwekwe to Manhize in the Midlands Province has been operationalised after the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) and the contractor agreed on the timeframe of the project.

The US$one billion Dinson Iron and Steel Project in Manhize has already been proclaimed a national project.

Th steel plant, which is set to be Africa’s largest stainless steel producer, has been given impetus, with ZESA fast-tracking construction of a 330Kv powerline.

The 100 kilometre powerline will facilitate the efficient operation of the enormous steel plant which is expected to create at least 10 000 jobs.

ZESA Executive Chairman Dr Sydney Gata is convinced that providing energy to industry feeds into the aspirations of the National Development Strategy One.

As part of our national mandate, we should power the economy with provision of electricity and this project will be given the due consideration it deserves and it’s a priority that we will undertake within the timelines that have been agreed upon,” he said.

Dinson Iron and Steel Company settled for TBEA Company, a renowned Chinese manufacturer of transformers and other electrical equipment, as the contractor to superintendent over the construction of the 330 kilovolts powerline.
