Sables ready to give their all

By Lawrence Trusida

THE Zimbabwe fifteens Rugby side, the Sables continue with their quest to qualify for the 2023 World Cup when they take on old foes Namibia in a Rugby Africa Cup semi-final encounter in France this Wednesday.

Although Namibia has dominated past meetings between the two teams, Zimbabwe is confident of overcoming the odds and beat their neighbours for a place in the final of the Africa Cup.

The winners of the competition will automatically qualify for the World Cup to be staged in France next year.

Zimbabwe last rubbed shoulders with the best at a World Cup in 1991 but the Sables class of 2022 is ready to give it their all.

However, recent history is against the Sables after Namibia beat Zimbabwe in November last year 41-10.

I think it’s going to be the match of our lives, they are the highest ranked team in the tournament, history is on their side but we are ready to shock them. The boys are ready and we want to make the nation proud,” said Sables Captain, Hilton Mudariki.

Meanwhile, the Sables technical department has kept faith in the majority of the players that dismantled Cote D’Ivoire 38-11 in the quarter finals.

There is a new front-row with Tyran Fagan, Matthew Mandioma and Cleopas Kundiwona coming in for Bornwell Gwinji, Liam Lakam and Victor Mupunga.
