THE Zimbabwe netball team, the Gems are confident of making it to their second World Cup after regrouping this Sunday to prepare for the 2023 Netball World Cup qualifiers slated for next month in South Africa.
With the Gems’ trip to the United Kingdom for friendlies having been cancelled due to logistical challenges, the team has shifted focus to the World Cup Qualifiers.
The tri-nations Confederation of Southern Africa Netball Association (COSANA) tournament gave the Gems a timely reminder of what lies ahead after they finished second behind hosts Malawi.
“We have just started our training camp to look at our mistakes and correct them after our encounter in Malawi. We will bring in new players whom we think can deliver in the World Cup Qualifiers because our weakest point was the middle court so they will play on middle court and also our options will be a bit better,” said Tendai Shinya, Gems Assistant Head Coach
South Africa-based players are set to join the team this Tuesday, while skipper Felistas Kwangwa is already in the country.
