BLAST furnace components for the construction of what will be Africa’s biggest steel plant near Mvuma have arrived in the country.
The blast furnace components which came through Durban, South Africa are now at the steel plant site in Manhize.
The contractor, Dinson Iron and Steel Company is hoping to complete the first phase of the plant within the next two years.
While the blast furnace is still at an infant stage, the company has already set up a cement mixing plant with a capacity of producing at least 60 cubic meters per hour.
Last month, the company sealed a deal with the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company for the construction of a 95km power line to the plant.
The establishment of the steel company, which will create at least 6 000 jobs, will also result in the establishment of a new town in Manhize.
