THE National Taekwondo team has started preparations for the Eswatini Taekwondo Championships slated for the mountainous country on the 1st of July.
The nine-member team comprising seven juniors and two seniors is looking ahead to their first international competition in months.
For some of the athletes, it will be their first international competition but the coach is happy with the exposure the team is getting.
“The exposure will help a lot because we are using these competitions as preparations for the regional games,” said Ndaona Kembo, the head coach.
The association is happy with increased support from the government and the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee.
“We received funding from ZOC for the first time and that has been massive in terms of preparations for these games and also our yearly programme,” said Benson Zwizwai, Zimbabwe Taekwondo Federation president.
The team is set to compete in the Malawi test games in August before going to Lesotho for a regional tournament and lastly, the African Union Sports Council Region Five Youth Games in Lilongwe set for December.
