EIGHT teams will take part in the inaugural Marvellous Nakamba Youth Tournament at White City Stadium in Bulawayo from the 25th to the 26th of this month.
The tournament will see some of the country’s biggest teams battling for the ultimate prize.
There will be two groups of eight teams, with Highlanders and Dynamos junior teams being joined by Majesa Academy and Njube Sundowns in Group A, while Group B comprises Bulawayo City, Hwange Dynamo, Ajax Hot Spurs and Chicken Inn juniors.
Speaking at the launch of the tournament, Chairperson of the Marvellous Nakamba Foundation, Anthony Nakamba is confident the tournament will identify future stars.
“Marvellous grew up as a boy who loved football and as his family we nurtured his talent and made sure he got all the support to attain his dream. He made the grade to play in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League at the age of 15 at Bantu Rovers. His first break into the international arena began in France at Nance from 2012 to 2014, he moved to Vitesse in Netherlands from 2014 to 2016,
“From there he went on to Club Brugge in Belgium from 2016 to 2018 before settling at Aston Villa in England from 2019 to date. We hope that the tournament will produce another Marvelous or even a better star. This is his way of giving back to the community,” said Anthony Nakamba,” he said.
Nakamba is the only Zimbabwean Football Player to have won two trophies in two different European professional leagues after winning the KNVB Beker Trophy with Vitesse in Netherlands and the Belgian Cup with Club Brugge.
