ASTON Villa and Warriors Midfielder, Marvellous Nakamba has taken a cue from other African sport icons after setting up a sports facility to nurture young talent inBulawayo.
Retracing footsteps is a mammoth task for many, let alone sports personalities.
However, Warriors Midfielder, Marvellous Nakamba, who plies his trade in the English top flight with Aston Villa has reconstructed the narrative.
After successfully running a bursary scheme for the less privileged through the Marvellous Nakamba Foundation, the Aston Villa Midfield enforcer is back again, this time setting up a sports facility on a five hectare piece of land in Bulawayo’s Mahatshula suburb.
“The foundation has been running various initiatives and we felt that we needed to do a bigger project hence we are here to kickstart the construction of a sports facility. We have our own model but we will also be visiting other facilities in Zambia and South Africa to remodel out facility,” said Ndumiso Sibanda, Nakamba Foundation Representative.
ZBC News caught up with Nakamba’s father, Anthony, a former ZPC Hwange player, who gave an insight into the mega sports project, which will house various sport codes.
“When Marvellous told us about the project, we were very happy as a family that he is doing something good for the community. I thought it was just a dream but today, I am proud to see the project take off,” he said.
Being a life changing initiative, the project is expected to bring on board other sport icons as partners to the Warriors and Aston Villa star.
The Nakamba Foundation has so far assisted 2 500 children and youths under the education assistance programme.
