THE Zimbabwe senior netball team, the Gems, are in camp ahead of the Confederation of Southern Africa Netball Association (COSANA) tournament set for Malawi this weekend.
Zimbabwe will join Malawi and Namibia at the tournament, which comes at an opportune time as the Gems are preparing for the 2023 Netball World Cup qualifiers scheduled for Cape Town, South Africa in August.
Having gone into camp this Tuesday, the Gems are set to leave for Malawi this Friday.
“We have selected what we think is the best and we are expecting to win all the games. Everything is in place we are all ready. We are going to play against Namibia and Malawi. It’s only three nations competing and this is very important for us because this will determine how ready we are for the World Cup qualifiers,” said Agnes Chiroodza, Zimbabwe Netball team manager.
The Gems play back to back matches against Namibia on Sunday before they clash with even stiffer opponents, Malawi the next day.
The Zimbabwe Netball Association held team selection trials last month and came up with a 12-member squad led by skipper Clarice Kwaramba.
Coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki’s ladies also include Priscilla Ndlovu, Nicole Muzanenhamo, Tafadzwa Matura, Chipo Shoko, Progress Moyo, Ursula Ndlovu, Paida Tinoza, Cynthia Gamuchirai, Sharleen Tanaka Makusha, Beaula Hlungwane and Tafadzwa Mawango.
Meanwhile, the Under 19 netball team is also in camp preparing for the juniors’ version of the COSANA tournament.
