Bulawayo giants Highlanders have appointed Portuguese national, Baltemer Jose De Oliveira Brito as the club’s new head coach.
After a rigorous process of going through 20 CVs from local and foreign coaches, Highlanders settled for the 70-year-old, who holds a UEFA Pro License coaching badge and was Jose Mourinho’s understudy at FC Porto and Chelsea where they won various accolades.
Speaking through his first assistant Antonio Joao Martin leao Torres, Brito who has been out of employment since the advent of Covid-19, promised to steer the Bosso ship to the Promised Land, despite revealing that he has little knowledge of the local league.
“Highlanders are a big club and we are here to improve the team’s performance. We are going to utilise the break to familiarise with the local league,” Brito said.
Highlanders revealed that everything is now in place for the duo to take charge of the Harare City match on Sunday.
Highlanders secretary general Morgen Dube said “We have done all our homework in terms of the permits. We have notified all stakeholders as you see they have started their work.”
While the rest of the technical team will be announced in due course, Joel Luphahla is set to revert to his role as the second assistant coach.
Brito has a tough task of bringing back the smiles to success starved Bosso fans with Highlanders in an unfamiliar 12th position on the Premier soccer league table.
He replaces Mandla Mpofu who was sacked last month after a string of poor results.
