INCONSISTENT Bulawayo giants, Highlanders are hoping to go into the mid-season break with a win when they host a tricky Harare City side at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
With hopes of announcing a new technical setup before their match against Harare City still alive, the clock is ticking in the wrong direction for the fading Bulawayo giants.
Bosso have failed to maintain consistency in their line up and interim coach Joel Luphahla says the mid-season break will give them time to put their house in order.
“I have been with the club for seven weeks as assistant coach and one game as interim coach, but results continue to elude us due to changes in our line ups owing to various reasons ranging from player injuries. We hope the break will give us time to address some of our issues in our squad,” said Luphahla.
While a date against the Taurai Mangwiro-coached Harare City sets the stage for a student versus master affair in the coaching department, Highlanders midfielder Ngqobizitha Masuku says only maximum points will be the best gift for their thirsty fans.
“I had an injury when I was on form and as a player you would want to rush to come back to the fold, but I am sure we need to win Sunday’s game for our fans,” he said.
Although Highlanders claim to be on top of the situation in terms of appointing a substantive coach, impeccable sources say the executive only appraised the board on the sacking of Coach Mandla Mpofu this Wednesday.
“We have concluded our recruitment process and we hope to unveil the coach between tomorrow and Saturday but before Sunday’s game. we are happy to have done our business secretly this time as it jeopardizes the process. We however remain grateful to the patience of the media,” said Ronald Moyo, Highlanders chief executive officer.
Highlanders, who will miss the services of midfielder Devine Mhindirira, are expected to announce one successful candidate from the quartet of former coaches Kelvin Kaindu, Henrikus Pieter de Jongh, Mohammed Fathi and Mark Harrison, who was reportedly spotted in the city recently.
