THE country’s leading golfer, Scott Vincent is set to rub shoulders with the best in the world after qualifying for the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational series which tees off in England next week.
The Zimbabwean golfer won the Mizuno Open in Japan over the weekend to secure his third victory in the Japan Golf Tour.
Affectionately known as Mhondoro, Vincent will rub shoulders with the world’s as the field is headlined by former world number one, Dustin Johnson, while golf stars Louis Oosthuizen, Trevor Fisher Jr and Charl Schwartzel are among a host of former major winners participating.
The 54-hole tournament, which tees off at Centurion Club at St Albans, north of London on June 9, will have a purse of US$25 million, almost double that of any major tournament, with US$4 million going to the winner.
The 30-year-old Vincent earns his place in the star-studded field due to his impressive record on the Japan Golf Tour, which also saw him booking his place at the 150th Open Championship set for July.
He is the first golfer from Zimbabwe to play in the Olympics and the Golf World Cup.
