LINDA Shabba was the outstanding performer after retaining the ladies crown at the second edition of the JR Mawere memorial tournament held at Kwekwe High School over the weekend.
Kwekwe high school came alive this weekend with the second edition of the JR Mawere chess tournament being oversubscribed in both the students and open section.
The weekend belonged to Linda Shabba after she retained the crown in the ladies open section, while Tanaka Katsande and Cyril Chigodo jointly won the men’s open section.
The JR Mawere chess tournament is now a flagship chess tournament organised by Kwekwe chess club in honour of the late Kwekwe mayor, Johnson Rex Mawere who played a pivotal role in the development of the game.
