ALL roads to lead Kwekwe High School this weekend for the second edition of the two-day JR Mawere Memorial Chess Tournament in honour of the late first executive mayor of Kwekwe, Johnson Rex Mawere, who had a passion for the development of the sport.
The event will be held at the Kwekwe Chess Club.
The first edition, held in May last year, saw Chivhu chess club bringing on board young 10-year-old chess players, who stole the limelight.
Organisers say the second edition will be bigger and will see high school children battling it out on Saturday, while the open session will be staged on Sunday.
“We are ready to stage the second edition of the tournament and this time around, we have decided to have high school children playing on Saturday, while the open session will be on Sunday,” said Itayi Madicha.
The second edition will also be graced by a highly qualified chief arbiter, Simbarashe Murimi, with 120 participants having confirmed their participation.
