ZIMBABWE national cricket team selectors have named a strong 18-man squad to face Namibia in a five match T20 series which roars into life this Tuesday at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

The selectors have named an extended 18-man squad to take on Namibia as the Chevrons prepare for the T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

Zimbabwe will host the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup Qualifier B in July, which is one of two global tournaments that form the final stage of the qualification process for the 2022 World Cup in Australia.

New limited overs skipper, Craig Ervine takes charge for the first time and he will have experienced heads to call upon in Regis Chakabva, Tendai Chatara and Sikandar Raza, among others.

The selectors have also rewarded form after including seven players who were recently on tour with the Zimbabwe A side in Nepal with Tony Munyonga joined by Tadiwanashe Marumani, Luke Jongwe, Brandon Mavuta, Bradley Evans, Innocent Kaia and Victor Nyauchi.

However, there is no place for Sean Williams who is on compassionate leave after the death of his father as well as Richard Ngarava and Wellington Masakadza who are nursing injuries.

Zimbabwe last played T20 cricket in January when they lost 2-1 to Sri Lanka.

The Chevrons have a psychological advantage over Namibia after dominating the visitors in all forms of cricket.

The matches at Queens Sports Club will be open to vaccinated fans.
