NGONI Makusha and Tapiwa Chineka are among ten Zimbabwean athletes who are set to compete at the International championships slated for Botswana this Friday.
Makusha was outstanding at the Gaborone International meet held last weekend with a podium finish in the 100m race.
Fellow countryman Tapiwa Chineka had a good outing in the middle and long distance where he came second, while Joseph Muzenda and Kudzanai Chiborise reached the finals to win gold in the 200m race.
The quartet will be joined by six other athletes at the three-day Gaborone International championships, beginning this Friday.
National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe -NAAZ President, Tendai Tagara is confident of team Zimbabwe’s chances at the event.
“We are looking at running again in Botswana and this will be our final International competition where coaches will be selecting outstanding athletes to showcase their skills in upcoming events like the Africa Senior Championships. We encourage athletes to do their best in their endeavours. We also commend the partnership of athletics clubs to bring athletes to these major events,” said Tagara.
The 10-member cast is also preparing to represent Zimbabwe at the upcoming Africa Senior Athletics championships on a date to be announced.
Meanwhile, the athletes got a huge boost after receiving sponsorship from Yadah Athletics Club for the Botswana tour.
