ZIMBABWE’s outstanding organic horticultural produce is attracting buyers at the Macfrut 2022, the largest fruit and vegetable exhibition underway in Remini, Italy.
Ten local companies in the horticultural sector are showcasing products that include baobab and diversified herbs and spices, which have all been described by potential buyers as unique and top quality.
Zimbabwean exhibitors are targeting the growing health-conscious consumers in the European market, who are prioritising organic food rich in Vitamin C, potassium and antioxidants.
“We are very happy to be here at Macfrut 2022 as we are exploring new avenues for our produce,” said Kevin Blythe Wood, an exhibitor.
“It has been a fruitful outing as we have managed to secure some buyers here,” Tariro Venganai, another exhibitor said.
“Our organic products are making a mark here as evidenced by enquiries coming through. Last year was a learning phase and this year we have made a mark as deals are materialising.”
ZimTrade Export Promotion Officer, Mrs Sheron Chingonzo is confident that Zimbabwe’s participation at the fair will unlock lucrative markets for local farmers and increase the countrys export base.
“The main objectives of participating in this event are to increase the export of Zimbabwes fresh produce to Italy as well as to learn the latest trends, innovations, products, and services in the supply chain of fresh produce,” said Chingonzo.
This is the second year that local horticultural producers are showcasing their produce at the event, after last years interactions culminated in deals worth more than US$2.5 million.
