TOURISM players are enjoying the fruits of their labour after recording brisk business during the month of April, spurred by music festivals, expos and the Easter Holidays.
April emerged as the busiest month for the tourism sector with the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, Mapopoma Festival and Victoria Falls Carnival taking centre stage.
Victoria Falls resort also confirmed its status as the country’s destination of choice for most domestic and international travellers, with Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe representative Sharon Stead confirming the positive development.
“Stakeholders in the tourism industry are certainly breathing a sigh of relief in the past month, and that is due to the ZITF in Bulawayo, the Victoria Falls in general, the Victoria Falls Carnival and of course Easter. All the hotels, lodges, bed and breakfast and other resort properties in Victoria Falls have recorded one hundred percent occupancy in this past week,” she said.
Tourism players in Victoria Falls are elated with the way business has picked up in the sector.
“Business was good during Easter. We were full during the carnival weekend; this is good for the recovery of the tourism sector. Even in curios and artefacts, we recorded an increase in sales, we are happy,” said a tourism player
This year’s figures are expected to surpass the 2020 statistics in which the travel and tourism sector contributed 4.1 percent to Zimbabwe’s Gross Domestic Product, translating to more than US$620 million.
