Lady Cheetahs ready for battle

By Lawrence Trusida

The Zimbabwe women national rugby team, the Lady Cheetahs are raring to go ahead of the Africa Women Sevens Cup set for this Friday and Saturday in Monastir, Tunisia.

Zimbabwe is in Pool A alongside favourites, South Africa and Senegal, which have been on a steady growth in the shorter version of the game. The lady Cheetahs would also do well to continue with the momentum after an exciting two weeks for country’s national rugby teams with the Junior Sables winning the Barthes Trophy in Kenya before the Cheetahs qualified for the World Cup after finishing second at the Africa Men Sevens Cup.

Lady Cheetahs Head Coach, Derrick Chiwara is hoping to channel that positive energy in the sport into good results at the weekend.

“It is because of pressure that these teams did well, but we are hoping to use that positivity into spurring the girls forward, we are ready and we believe we can win it,” he said.

The Lady Cheetahs arrived in the North African country this Wednesday evening with the same squad that was on duty in Lesotho.
