SOUTH Africa A has levelled the three match one day series against Zimbabwe XI (ELEVEN) after beating the hosts by 51 runs through the Duckworth Lewis method at Harare Sports Club this Wednesday.
After losing the first match, South Africa A came out guns blazing as they batted first, posting 266 runs before being disturbed by the rains in the 46th over.
Rian Rickleton gave the visitors a good start with 63 before Reeza Hendricks took charge and scored a century off 107 balls.
There were also starts for Andile Pehlukwayo, Hendrick Klassen and Theneus De Bruyn but all of them failed to convert.
Fast baller Tendai Chatara, spinners Wellington Masakadza and Sikander Raza all grabbed two wickets apiece in a session dominated by South Africa.
The rains eventually eased off and play resumed with Zimbabwe batting and the target was set at 286 runs.
However, the hosts did not have a good start as they lost Kevin Kasuza for two runs, Prince Masvaure for six and Wessly Madhevere without troubling the scorers.
Only Takudzwa Kaitano tried his best but was dismissed for 14 that brought the pair of Milton Shumba and captain Raza to the crease and they started chopping at the target.
Their 70 run partnership was disturbed again by bad light and play latter resumed with a revised target of 145 runs in 20 overs.
Unfortunately Zimbabwe only managed 93 runs as they fell to their more fancied neighbours.
The decider is set for this Friday before the two teams’ battle it out in the T20s.
