FORMER warriors goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro says the Warriors should embark on early AFCON preparations if they fancy their chances of making it to Ivory Coast for the 2023 edition.
Having been among Zimbabwe’s finest players to break the jinx by making it to the first ever AFCON finals in Tunisia in 2004, alongside former Warriors skipper Peter Ndlovu, the late Charles Yohane, Tapuwa Kapini, George Mbwando and others, Murambadoro says gone are the days of viewing teams aother teams giants or minnows.
Nicknamed Gokwe, the former Warriors shot stopper believes the Warriors’ qualification hinges on early preparations beginning with a lift on the FIFA ban.
“Look, we have been to those competitions. To say that group is a group of death or it’s the easiest will not help the situation. What we need is to have a clear road map for our preparations, but first we need to ensure that ban is lifted for the players and the coaches to concentrate on the task at hand,” said Murambadoro.
Although the Warriors’ participation hinges by a thread, they were pooled alongside neighbours South Africa, Liberia and Morocco.
