Government pledges strengthened SMEs support

GOVERNMENT has pledged to enhance capacitation and formalisation of Small to Medium Enterprises saying they are a key pillar in Zimbabwe’s development matrix.

The realisation that the Zimbabwean economy is sixty percent informalised and highly underfunded has pushed key stakeholders including the academia, industry, financial institutions and government to come together to deliberate on efforts to strengthen and streamline the operations of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Addressing delegates who converged at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare this Thursday, the Minister of Women Affairs, Community and Small to Medium Enterprises Development, Dr Sithembiso Nyoni reiterated government’s commitment to enable each and every sector to flourish.

“As government, we are very excited that across all the sectors we have realised that SME’s are critical to the growth of Zimbabwe hence we have come up together to shape up our economic journey,” she said.

According to ZANU PF Acting Secretary for Youth Affairs, Cde Tendai Chirau, the country’s economic destiny is firmly in the hands of young people.

“We are grateful to government for availing numerous economic opportunities for youths and there is enough space for everyone in this economic train,” said Chirau.

Zimbabwe is targeting an upper middle income society by 2030, and economists believe it is attainable if everyone plays a part.
