THE International Handball Federation (IHF) Zone six tournament which was scheduled for July will now be held a month earlier to make up for lost time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Covid-19 pandemic changed the script for the Zimbabwe Handball Federation by pulling back all the targets set for the sport since 2010.
A change of dates has seen local and international handball suffering and this has reawakened the custodians of the sport who have since reversed the dates for the Zone six tournament in Zimbabwe.
“The Zimbabwe Handball Federation confirms the change of dates for the zone six championships that were set for July have been reversed to the 19th of June after the International Handball Federation and the Africa Handball Federation decided to return the game with immediate effect since it was supposed to be played in 2020 to catch up with coming tournaments set to prepare athletes for the 2023 World youth championships,” saidEdison Chiroodza Secretary General.
The senior men’s team will go into camp after the Easter holidays under the watchful eye of Coach Allen Mandeya with an eye on the Sub regional tourney which will be held from the 19th to the 25th of June at the City Sports centre in Harare and Chitungwiza Aquatic complex.
The Zonal championships will pave way for the Africa Handball nations Cup pencilled for Rwanda in August which will be part of the 2023 Youth and Junior Handball World Cup qualifiers slated for Germany and Greece.
