ZIMBABWEAN companies engaged members of the Federation Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade in Germany to explore ways of expanding markets for horticultural produce.

While horticultural products have a niche market in Europe and other continents, challenges regarding logistics have been noted.

This prompted a meeting of local firms with representatives of BWA which is an association that promotes economic trade in Germany to give a better understanding on the economic landscape.

Zimbabwean Ambassador to Germany, Alice Mashingaidze said there is a lot of interest from Germany firms to invest in Zimbabwe and the participation of local companies at the fruit logistica will open more room for cooperation.

Fruit Logistica was good business for Zimbabwe, I understand that about US$3 million of business has been generated though more are being followed up. The teams that participated made good business and Zimbabwe marketed itself very well. We had a meeting with big associations, it was an opener and if all comes to fruition Zimbabwe will gain a lot of traction in this regard. I have observed that there is great interest in Zimbabwe, which we will continue to push for it to be reality,” she said.

Zimbabwe had 25 companies in Berlin, with 10 of them exhibiting while 15 firms were there for business to business engagements.
