THE Zimbabwe Under-21 women’s hockey team is raring to go as they face Canada in their first match at the Junior World Cup in South Africa this Thursday.
The Tendai Maredza coached ladies had warm-up games against Uruguay and Wales on Wednesday evening.
Their first encounter with Uruguay ended in a goalless draw before they lost 2-0 to Wales.
After the Canada game this Thursday, Zimbabwe who are in Pool A will play the United States this Friday and Netherlands on Sunday.
The top two teams from each pool will go through to the quarter-finals.
Zimbabwe is ranked 54th in the Federation of International Hockey World rankings, and sixth in Africa.
The rankings are determined by the number of games a country plays at every tournament.
