THE Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) is working on a number of reforms to plug corruption in tender processes.
Among the reforms is the adoption of e-procurement and E-payment systems to reduce human interaction, which has been cited as a key driver of corruption.
Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) Chief Executive Officer, Clever Rutsva told stakeholders attending a Supply Chain Association of Zimbabwe breakfast meeting in Harare this Wednesday that efforts are underway to license procurement practitioners for monitoring purposes.
“We have engaged public entities such as the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) on E-procurement because what we want is to minimise human interaction which is one of the major drivers of corruption,” said Kuziwa.
The restructuring of public procurement processes will now see tenders being awarded by accounting officers in state departments, while PRAZ plays a supervisory role to ensure compliance with the new Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act.

“We are coming up with procurement reforms in line with the public procurement and disposal of public assets Act. All procurement practitioners will be registered and under scrutiny if they uphold best procurement practices,” he said.
Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) Deputy Chairperson, Commissioner Kuziwa Murapa spoke on how the E-procurement system will minimise human interaction, a key driver of corrupt activities.
