RUGBY: Sables expands team for Currie Cup

THE Zimbabwe Fifteens Rugby team, the Sables, have been boosted by the inclusion of South Africa-born stars, Michael Kumbirai and Jason Fraser, in the squad assembled for the Currie Cup slated for South Africa.
The Sables technical team announced an expanded squad which is expected to convene for the Currie Cup First Division penciled for the 26th of March in Cape Town.
Zimbabwe, who are hoping to qualify for their first World Cup since 1991 have cast their net wider in a bid to come up with a formidable squad that has been boosted by the South African-born pair who are based in France.
Fraser is club teammates with Sables prop, Farai Mudariki, who is also set to return to the national team.
A new call-up to the Sables is the Scotland-born flank, Mason Mungo and the exciting Hong Kong-based number eight, Nyasha Tarusenga.
Zimbabwe welcomes back open side flank, Connor Pritchard, who has not played Test rugby for the Sables since 2018 due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
Towering lock Poland-based Kudakwashe Nyakufaringwa also makes a welcome return to the national team.
Zimbabwe will compete as the Goshawks with their work cut out in their opening match against Georgia on the 2nd of April.
The Sables squad will proceed to France for the 2022 Rugby Africa Cup which will also serve as the final round of the 2023 Rugby World Cup qualifiers.
