Gems in camp

THE Zimbabwe netball team, the Gems, have regrouped for the first training camp as they prepare for the 2023 Netball World Cup qualifiers.

The team will have periodic training camps every month ahead of the qualifiers for the tournament to be held in October next year in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Gems trooped into a month-long training camp this Monday, which will be an opportune time for the team selectors to finalise the squad that will represent the nation in the World Cup qualifiers.

“So far, the training is going very well. We have not seen any problems or injuries since we started and the players seem to be ready for camp. The selection process has begun, and it will take a while until we finish our three camps and have the final team,” said Gems assistant coach, Ropafadzo Mutsauki.

The qualifiers come after the Gems dropped out of the top 12 in the World Netball Rankings.

Now ranked 13th, the Gems are out of the automatic qualifying slots and will have to fight for a place at the World Cup in the qualifiers.
