GOVERNMENT is working on modalities to increase the number of service stations that sell fuel in local currency.
This was revealed by the Deputy Minister of Energy and Power Development, Honourable Magna Mudyiwa during a Senate Question and Answer Session, held at the Parliament Building in Harare this Thursday.
Hon Mudyiwa updated the house on government modalities to increase the number of service stations that sell fuel in local currency from the current 57.
The house was also updated that only three units are working at Hwange Power Station, increasing load shedding.
“Currently, we have three units out of six working at Hwange Power Station. As a result, our load-shedding schedule has increased,” he said.
The Ministry of Mines and Mining Development also announced the suspension of underground mining activities for small-scale miners due to risks associated with the rainfall season.
“We have suspended operations for small-scale miners because there were many cases, some of which went unreported, of fatalities as a result curving,” he added.
Senate also debated on drug abuse and the sale of illicit beers, an increase in armed robbery cases, the schools feeding programme and the welfare of civil servants, among other issue
